Languages of the Workplace

People in any setting have a system of signs, symbols, gestures, or rules used in communicating. This is their language, for example, we have the language of war, language of politics, language of religion etc.

When we speak the language in any setting we belong, we establish mutual understanding and ultimately we are able to get things done.

This is true for the workplace. Many times, we get into troubles in the workplace because we are speaking a different language. Until we learn and speak the language of the workplace, there will always be contentions, dissatisfaction and friction in the wheel of progress.

Here are 6 languages of the workplace we must learn to speak

Language of loyalty

When you sign up to work with an organisation, you have just opted to be loyal to the interest of the organisation. There is no self seeking at the expense of the organisation.

No leaking out the information or trade secrets of the company, not even in an interview with another organisation. You don’t have to sign a non disclosure agreement to keep your lips sealed, it is a mandate you must fulfill.

You must be loyal to the employment contract including the psychological one.

That you sense inequity from your employer does not mean you should cheat on your organisation. You owe your loyalty to the organisation to God.

Language of commitment

Every role in an organisation is there to solve a particular problem. You must solve the problem you are employed to solve even better than expected. Commitment means you get things done without giving any excuse. You also eschew every form of eye service

Language of care

Care for the customers, care for the assets of the organisation, care for the owners of the business, care for yourself  are all the hallmark of the language of care.

You need to take care of yourself physically, mentally and emotionally to be able to fulfill your obligations. You need to manage the assets of the organisation in your care properly and you should also take care of what is important to the business owner, especially the customers.

Language of self responsibility

Never should you expect more than the organisation granted you, take responsibility for your career growth. There should be no entitlement mentality.

Language of truth

Staying truthful to one’s organisation is a virtue that is not very popular these days. People go an extra mile to cheat the system all to place themselves at an advantage position. This act range from mild like calling in sick when not sick to extreme cases like falsifying documents or changing figures are now becoming common.

When we don’t speak these languages, we fail to represent the kingdom of God and we will be held accountable and rewarded for our works. Matthew 25:14-30.

We must never act like God is not involved in our service at the workplace, He is and He rewards the good or bad we do.

God bless you.
