One Attribute Every Employee Must Have and 7 Reasons you must Develop it

There is a virtue that when displayed melts every ice of opposition, rejection, and discrimination especially when combined with humility.

Martin Luther King Jr. once said that;

If a man is called to be a street sweeper, he should sweep streets even as a Michaelangelo painted, or Beethoven composed music or Shakespeare wrote poetry. He should sweep streets so well that all the hosts of heaven and earth will pause to say, ‘Here lived a great street sweeper who did his job well.

In the fight against racial discrimination, He also pointed out that the ‘antidote to racial discrimination is excellence’

Excellence (the quality of being outstanding or extremely good) is a virtue that cannot be hidden and is appreciated by everyone. On the flip side, it is also a harbinger of envy and hatred when surrounded by mediocrity.

The Bible acknowledges the virtue of excellence. In an instance, it was mentioned that despite being wicked, the excellence of a wicked person towers to the heavens. Job 20:6

And God also said that His delight is in the excellent. Psalms‬ ‭16:3‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Excellence distinguished Daniel in the service of King Nebuchadnezzar such that he, along with his three friends, were found ten times better than colleagues.

His excellent work was not a fluke as it cut across various governments.

When he was appointed by Darius as one of the three presidents to supervise the 120 princes selected to administer the kingdom, Daniel was preferred among the three presidents because of his excellent spirit. Dan 6: 1-3.

Despite being a Jew and a captive, he was a model because of his spirit of excellence.

Here are 7 reasons why you must cultivate the spirit of excellence.

  1. God delights in excellence
  2. You have no other choice. Average is not an option
  3. Opportunities to serve and be greatly rewarded come looking for you
  4. If you do one thing well, people believe that you can do every other thing. This tendency to become the go-to person gives you a leverage in building your brand and gives you power of influence
  5. Following from the power of influence you derive, you can easily share your faith to colleagues, superior and subordinates
  6. Cultivating and living in excellence could be the solution to some of the challenges you are facing at work. Excellence is appreciated by everyone.
  7. You have the chance to stand before Kings.

In the next edition, I will talk about how to cultivate the spirit of excellence.

God bless you
