Like Father Like Son; the Work of the Father

“Jesus answered his critics by saying, “Everyday my Father is at work, and I will be too!” ‭‭John‬ ‭5:17‬ ‭TPT‬‬

When Jesus made this statement, the Jewish leaders were angry with Him because they considered it a statement of pride rather than priority which Jesus Christ intended it to be.

Jesus had mentioned the importance of doing His father’s work in the previous chapter when he refused to eat the food brought by His disciples.

“But Jesus told them, “Don’t worry about me. I have eaten a meal you don’t know about.” John‬ ‭4:32‬ ‭TPT‬‬

“Then Jesus spoke up and said, “My food is to be doing the will of him who sent me and bring it to completion.” ‭‭John‬ ‭4:34‬ ‭TPT‬‬

He then went further to let the disciples know why it was very critical of Him to focus on the work of His father.

“As the crowds emerged from the village, Jesus said to his disciples, “Why would you say, ‘The harvest is another four months away’? Look at all the people coming—now is harvest time! For their hearts are like vast fields of ripened grain—ready for a spiritual harvest.” ‭‭John‬ ‭4:35‬ ‭TPT‬‬

Jesus emphasized to His disciples the visible signs which they have refused to see that they were in a critical time that requires concentration on the primary assignment of the Father.

I believe just like it was then, the signs of the times are also a reminder to us that our godly assignment is pending and there is no time.

We are in a time when we should work everyday like our Father. It is a time when we need to be curious about the time and season we are in, find out what God is doing and plunge into it.

Prophet Isaiah said darkness shall cover the earth and gross darkness the people but we must arise and shine. (Isaiah 60:1&2).

When there is darkness and you are being asked to arise and shine, it suggests you’ve got some light, right?

The implication of this is that;

1. In the face of the darkness of this world, you must still maintain your light. You must never allow your light to be taken over by darkness. Remember this world is a phase, it will pass.

“If you enjoy the things of this world, do not live as if those things are important. This world, as it is now, will soon finish.”

1 Corinthians‬ ‭7:31‬ ‭EASY‬‬

2. That your light has to shine, it can never be hidden.

“No man, when he hath lighted a candle, putteth it in a secret place, neither under a bushel, but on a candlestick, that they which come in may see the light.”

‭‭Luke‬ ‭11:33‬ ‭KJV‬‬

3. Your light requires an extra oil. You cannot afford to be a casual Christian. You must desire and push for more of God, you must tarry in His presence to be endued with power because we often fall asleep in our prophetic journey like the wise and foolish virgins while waiting for the coming of the bridegroom.

The summary of it all is that you must know what work your Father wants you to do and you had better been a star performer on it. In this case, it is His spiritual assignment for you and that is not far fetched – bring light to the world around you.

God bless you
