The Friend Often Ignored

Many times we get too familiar with someone that we discount the value of the relationship or what they can help us achieved.

As a Christian, we have the Holy Spirit but to many of us, we remember Him when we sing songs that have the word ‘Holy Spirit’ in it or when in a service and the leader says ‘let us welcome the presence of the Holy Spirit’.

We have totally forgotten what Jesus said about Him in the book of John 16: 12-15.

Recently, I listened to a series on the Holy Spirit through My Secret Place Devotion by Rev Oyiks Alfred. One of the things I was reminded from the series is that the Holy Spirit helps us to pray. I decided it was not going to be business as usual, that I had to act on the message.

Around midnight on this particular day, as I was about to sleep, I asked the Holy Spirit to wake me up by 2am to pray. So I decided not to set my alarm as usual.

Later, it was like I was pulled up from sleep as I woke up sitting up. When I checked the time, it was 1.44am. I did what I needed to do and by 2am I was ready to pray.

The second time, I asked the Holy Spirit to wake me up by 4am. When I woke up that night, I checked my time and it was 3.59am.

I questioned my relationship with the Holy after this experience. Did I just receive the Holy Spirit? Why haven’t I depended so much on His help at all times as promised by Jesus?

Why have I treated the Holy Spirit as a long distance partner? Why don’t I always remember that He is always with me?

These are probably questions many of us need to ask ourselves.

The truth is, the Holy Spirit is as real as it can be and He is always waiting to help when we ask.

If He has become a distance partner to you too, please close the gap now.

We can only successfully navigate through this life with the help of the Holy Spirit who is always there to help.

God bless you.
