Why we act the way we do at work.

I was on a live programme with a pastor friend of mine on Instagram where a question was asked – why do Christians put up bad characters at work?.

In my own view, there could be several reasons why this happens but there is just one singular cause.

I once narrated a story of a guy popularly known as ‘pastor’ at work. He was involved in helping bosses push fraudulent transactions through. He was being nice to them with the hope that he will be in their good books and get some favour in return.

Many instances of bad characters at work usually follow this pattern. Regardless of what is done, the intention is usually the same and it is to push self interest.

What will make a Christian backbite, slander, cheat, is the same thing that will make him/her falsify documents or lie to get things done.

What then is the major cause of this bad character? It is simply lack of trust in God.

When we do things that speak of bad characters, it is simply because we do not trust God. There is a provision for that thing that is the motive for the bad character in the word of God. We would rather do it our own way than please God.

Until we come to the realization that;

  1. God does not lie. Whatever He has said in His word will surely come to pass. Hebrews 6:17&18
  2. God loves us and this love He has shown by giving us His most precious possession. There is nothing else He can’t give us if we ask according to His will. Rom 8:32

We need the help of God to open our eyes and heart to this truth otherwise we will not be able to trust God and act like Him in the workplace.

God bless you.
