Why Your Change of Job hasn’t Produced the Change

Many people complain about their job and looking forward to a change.

Most times, they change jobs but soon enough the same reasons why they complain in their previous jobs begin to show up and the cycle goes on and on.

The truth is, when we have challenges with our jobs as in other areas of life, the first thing that needs to change is ourselves, not the job.

Why the change we desire in our lives have not come to be is because we try to change the things we don’t have control over while leaving the things that are within our control.

If you leave one job for another because of some issues, you can not determine what happens in the next job. If you leave your job for another because you have a bad boss, are you going to chose your boss in the next job?

The process of change starts with asking the question “do I really want to change”

The desire to change is the first thing to be sorted. Many wants to have a better career but never get started on what needs to be done. Jesus asked the man who had the infirmity for 38 years “do you want to be made well”. In other words, do you really want a change in your situation? For him to be by the pool side means he wanted to be healed but his actions did not show that he really needed the healing.

The second is accepting responsibility for our situation. Never the government, our parents, background, the employer etc but you. This means we stop looking for excuses but solution.

The man with the infirmity for 38 years had the healer with him but continued to give excuses why he has not been well.

Instead of accepting responsibility for our situation and seek the right solutions, many times we only whine about what is wrong.

You say your salary is small and you sit down raining curses on your employer. You are angry and you start applying for other jobs, and for a small additional offer, you jump ship. Do you realize that you have not really solved the problem? Expenses will soon catch up with the new pay and very soon you are back to where you started from.

The change you need in this case is not another job but a new ‘you’ with new skills to solve more problems because money always follow value.

We need to rethink the way we approach change.

God bless you.
